Step 6: Add lots of mascara. Today I’m wearing Pop Beauty Lash Kapow + Urban Decay Big Fatty.

A fun dramatic look: love the pop of color under the eye. I personally don’t wear my eyeliner that thick because I have small, hooded eyes so thick liner actually makes them look smaller. I also don’t put mascara on my lower lashes because it always smudges on me, and I only wear waterproof mascara if absolutely necessary—like if I’m in a wedding and I know I’m going to cry! It’s just so hard to get off and I feel like it makes my lashes brittle. 

This is a great example of a well-groomed but still natural-looking brow as well! You could easily replicate this look with either of the Urban Decay Naked Palettes and black and electric blue liner. I just got a few pencil liners from Buxom I’m really liking. Great texture for using on your waterline as well as your lid. I generally don’t wear liquid eyeliner either because I have an intended tremor in my hand and it ends up looking very Edward Scissorhandsy.

A colorful smoky eye is always fun! Here they have also used individual false lashes on the bottom and at least one full strip on the top for a very dramatic look. False eyelashes are becoming more acceptable/common in every day life, as opposed to just film/TV or for very formal evening events. If you are truly lash-less, a clump or two of “individual” lashes on the outside corner that aren’t too long or spidey can look natural enough for daytime. Be careful taking them off, though! Though its generally pretty easy to pull them off after a long night, you should really take a damp, warm washcloth and hold it where the lashes are to dissolve the glue before removing them or you could be yanking out a few of your own lashes taking them off.

GREAT tight lining with a liquid liner on the top lid, but the eyebrows’ have a really strong line at the bottom I’d prefer to see blended out a little. I prefer powder to pencil in general for brows unless you are trying for a very dramatic look or you have really thin eyebrows, or over plucked eyebrows you’re trying to grow back in. Still though, in those cases, I make sure to blend the pencil so you don’t see any hard lines, then fill in with brow powder on top—which should be one to two shades LIGHTER than your brows unless your brows are very blonde and your hair is darker, in which case a taupe or ash-blonde color that splits the difference between your hair and your natural brow color is best.
When I have red hair I use an auburn eyebrow powder, and a taupe-brown color when I have it my natural color which is a dark brown—somewhere between a 3 and a 4 on a colorist’s scale

MAC and Rihanna Collaboration: RiRi Hearts MAC Collection for 2013

This? Is the only good thing I am interested in when it comes to Rihanna. I’m honestly surprised MAC aligned themselves with her since she’s back with the guy who beat the crap out of her, thought this line was probably in dev/prod before she got back together with Chris Brown.

Obviously they are both consenting adults, and while I do believe people can change, I think his recent scraps with Drake and Frank Ocean kinda indicate he could still use some anger management classes.

I’m working in a 5th grade classroom right now and I’d hate to think any of these girls are looking at this situation and thinking “Well, if my boyfriend beats me up but he only does it once and says he’s sorry and I really love him I should get back together with him”.

The saddest part of this is that Ri’s parents got divorced because her DAD was an abusive alcoholic. It’s amazing how much impact fathers have on their daughters. She’s repeating history and what’s sad is that so many women do that. If they have no healthy model of what adult love and/or marriage looks like, they pick what they know, and are either determined to “save” their abusive partner from his/her demons and/or they really subconsciously believe they don’t deserve better, probably because they heard a lot of verbal abuse aimed at them or their mothers growing up.

Yikes, this post kind of went off on a tangent, but I just can’t see anything having to do with Rihanna these days without thinking about all of this.

Love this fiery red and tousled, wavy/curly bob. This is what I’m trying to grow my hair out into from my previous pixie cut. I had my hair like this a few years ago, then cut it short again before I went to Costa Rica the first time. I’ve basically had variations on a pixie since I was 17, so having a bit longer, slightly more versatile style will be exciting if I can just be patient enough to not hack it all off before it gets this long!
